For years I have been actively documenting my life and what is around me. My grandmother's love of photography and her need to photograph our family inspired me to pick up a camera and do the same. I began photographing after my dad passed away and I hadn't yet made any pictures of him, becoming obsessed with photographing family and documenting the people I was close to before it was too late. My first project focused on my grandmother and her antique shop. During this project I became fascinated with the idea of 'stuff.' I named the project "Trash and Treasures," after the antique shop. My pictures talk about the spaces we inhabit and the objects with which we surround ourselves. I aim to examine memory and loss through the interrelation of objects and the people they represent posthumously. Not unlike photographs, personal ephemera can become our only physical connection to the dead, whether trash or treasure. Recently I've been exploring human land use through the pictures I make, capturing instances of nature being dominated by humans as well as human-made structures being, in turn, diminished by nature. I'm currently shooting predominantly with Polaroid film since it, by nature, degrades as well as relies on specific atmospheric conditions to survive processing its one-of-a-kind image. My photographs portray the beauty of natural decay and the footprint left by human-altered landscapes. I'm looking very closely at the little things we encounter, the minor details we stumble upon everyday but don't really think about, and illustrating their significance.
